History
Edgewood Inn was originally home to the Stablers, one of the oldest Quaker families in the area. The main house was built circa 1858, 2 1/2 story, two rooms wide with a rear kitchen ell. Around the late 1800's a new kitchen wing was added to the northeast corner and another rear wing was built on the northwest corner around 1903.
Outbuildings are located north and east of the main house consisting of a corn crib, ice house, carriage house, blacksmith shop and a tenant house. A Stabler lived on the property until 1963 when it was purchased by the Swans. It was home to the Swans as well as being used as an inn, restaurant, and antique shops. Barry Gudelsky purchased the property from the Swans in 2006 and he and his partners are in the process of restoring the buildings to be used for restaurant space, catered events, antique and craft shops.
Current plans include the rebuilding of the bank barn in the same area where the ruins of the old barn stood. All buildings will be available for lease for restaurant or retail space, with the exception of the tenant house which will be available for rent as a residence.
We were able to obtain some pictures from the Stabler Family (the original owners). Pictured below are the original buildings that existed on the farm and some of the family members involved in the farming activities, a big part of their lives.
